Our sympathy to all of you. We enjoyed hearing Sue tell of her family in Waukesha (and the lake) and know that Don was a crucial part of the lives of each of his loved ones. We will be thinking of you tomorrow and offering a prayer of gratitude for his life on this earth and now in God's everlasting arms.

Don Sickels will be remembered for his unique mix of exuding a classic teacher's seriousness with quirky twists of humour. He and Sallie have brought up three very exceptional children, that moved through young adulthood, to their varied stations in life today. This has afforded Don the pleasures of seniority in the Sickels Family - ably shared by Sallie. I was privileged to get to know and appreciate Don in my American Field Service year in Waukesha from 1977 to 1978, The Sickels' Waukesha home and Lake Nokomis cottage have been shared with passing friends like myself, and the Sickels Family's membership of the First United Methodist Church in Waukesha has been an important part of what each Family member is today, I'd say. Don will be missed for his down-to-earthedness, but especially for his friendship, sharing nature and of course, his wonderful sense of humour. I will never forget pheasant and deer hunting in Jefferson and Waupaca Counties with Don, Dave Claflin, and their respective sons - John and Jim, and Tim and Bill and the great times we had together, To Sallie and Sue, as well, my thoughts and sympathies go to you on Don's sad passing. A wonderful Family has lost its Chief. We are all the poorer for that. Farewell Don, From Bryan Bench, Herold's Bay, South Africa

Don was a good friend and the many hours we spent together at church, eating Saturday morning breakfast and playing cards were always filled with lively discussion and humor. Don had a serious side as well. He cared for many people and was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren. We didn't always agree on all issues but we were always friends. He was simply a great guy and a friend you could count on. He fought hard against the cancer that ended his life here on earth and never complained. I'm sure he is in heaven with God and probably tending the lawn!

Sallie, so sorry for your loss. He wore many hats, but I suspect “teacher” fit the best.

Mr. Sickels was my 8th grade social studies teacher at Greenfield Middle School. He challenged and inspired us to consider important, contemporary political issues. I have fond memories of our classroom debates and their continued relevance. His name has been a part of many of our family reminisces. I am so grateful to have had him as a teacher. God bless him, Gary Ruesch
