Obituary of Nancy G. Mead

Nancy G. Mead Of Waukesha, died peacefully at her home early Sunday morning, November 6, 2011 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. She was born May 25, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of William H. and Esther Sherwood Graves. She grew up in Huntington Woods and graduated from Royal Oak H.S. in 1947. She attended the U. of Wisconsin where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1951. In June of that year, she married Charles F. (Chuck) Mead, whom she met at the University. ? th They celebrated their 60 anniversary this past June. Following their marriage, Nancy and Chuck lived in Augusta, Georgia and Bad Kreuznach, Germany before moving to Waukesha in 1953. Nancy was very active in the community as a member and former President of the Waukesha Service Club and the Ideal Club. She was a proud, active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Nancy was also a member of the PEO Chapter AQ. She showed great love for her family, her community, and her country throughout her life. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Sanibel Island, in Door County, and "up north" at the cottage on Long Lake. Nancy is survived by her husband and three children, Robert C. M.D. (Carol) of Green Bay, WI, John W. (Deidre) of Woodbury, MN, and Carolyn M. (Michael) Burton of Fox Point, WI; eight grandchildren, Reed, Lauren, Joe, Maddie, Emily, Jacob, Collin and Charlie; and one brother, William H. III, M.D. (Maryanna) Graves of Ann Arbor, MI. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the 11:00 AM memorial service on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. Nancy's family is thankful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Thomas Wittmann. Memorials in Nancy's name appreciated to the First United Methodist Church Foundation, the University of Wisconsin Foundation for stem cell research, or the Wisconsin chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
