Obituary of Pastor Glen H. Teasdale
Pastor Glen H. Teasdale
Pastor Glen H. Teasdale went home to be with the Lord he loved and served for
over sixty-five years on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the age of 86. Glen was born in
Oak Park, Illinois, on May 15, 1925 to Harold and Helen Teasdale. He grew up in
River Forest, Illinois and graduated from the Oak Park-River Forest Township
High School. During his time in River Forest, he came to know Christ as his
personal Savior at the age of twelve. After graduation from high school, he
attended a year at the River Falls State College before the Lord called him into
the ministry. After receiving the call, he transferred to the Northwestern Bible
School in Minneapolis, MN. While there, he began preaching at a small country
church in Hersey, Wisconsin. After graduating from Bible school, he became the
pastor of that church. During that time, he met and later married his wife
Marjorie (nee Hollerud) on June 16, 1953. After getting married, the young
couple moved to Park River, North Dakota, and pastored a church there for a
short time. Then, they were called to the First Baptist Church of New Lisbon,
Wisconsin where they served for nine years.
In 1964, Pastor Teasdale, his wife, and three daughters took up the challenge of
becoming the pastor of a new church in Waukesha. He took over as pastor in
June of 1964 and served the Lord here until his retirement in 2011. In fact, he
preached his last message on his birthday -May 15, 2011. While in Waukesha, he
saw the church grow and move from its first location on the corner of Maple and
Carroll Streets, across from the library, to its present location across Highway TT
from the Meadowbrook Shopping Center. He also led in the opening of the
Waukesha Christian Academy in the fall of 1976 and served as the administrator
of the school until this past fall. Over the many years of service here in
Waukesha, he also served on many state boards, including those of the
Wisconsin Independent Baptist Mission which helped start Baptist churches
around the state, the Chetek Baptist Assembly -a Bible camping ministry in
northwestern Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools, a
body of independent, fundamental Christian schools around the state. Some may
have heard Pastor Teasdale on radio station WVCY (107.7 FM). He had a nightly
broadcast on that station through the seventies and early eighties. Then, he
changed to just a Saturday night broadcast beginning in 1982 until his failing
health prevented him from continuing in July of 2011. In 1997, Pastor Teasdale
was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Maranatha Baptist
Bible College.
Pastor Teasdale is survived by his wife Marjorie; five children Karen, Donna
(Gerald) Goessel, Eileen (Greg) Neu, John, and David -all of Waukesha; five
grandchildren Stephen (Ruth) Goessel, Rebekah Goessel, Sarah Goessel,
Elisabeth Goessel, and Julia Goessel; and two great-grandchildren Gavin and Noel
Goessel. He is also survived by a sister Lila Franson of Des Moines, Iowa, and a
brother John Teasdale of Titusville, Florida. Pastor Teasdale was preceded in
death by his parents and a brother who died at birth.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Faith Baptist
Church, 3250 Summit Avenue, Waukesha. The following morning, Wednesday,
March 7, there will be a visitation from 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial
service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Richards officiating. Both will again be held
at the Faith Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the
Mukwonago Baptist Church Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Waukesha
Memorial Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic for their months of excellent,
compassionate care. They would also like to thank the kind folks from the
Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care group for their help at the end. In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Faith Baptist Church
(see address above)or the Waukesha Christian Academy.
