Obituary of Leonard C. Fortier

Of Waukesha, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the age of 79 years. He was born April 1, 1933, in Orwell Vermont, the son of Laurence and Florence Fortier. Len was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Mary N. (nee Hart) on February 17, 1962. Len worked at IBM as a customer engineer, where he retired after 34 years. He was an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he ushered and participated on the Building and Grounds committee. He was an avid Civil War buff; he belonged to the Waukesha Civil War Round Table, the Prairieville Irregulars, and attended the Carroll College Civil War Institute, and was in the first class to graduate. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Len will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary of 50 years; his daughters, Noel Fortier of Waukesha, Diane Fortier and Suzanne Fortier both of Dodgeville, WI; brothers, Harold (Sarah) Fortier and Edward (Dorothea) Fortier; sister-in-law, Margaret Hethcote. He is further survived by, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul and sisters, Elinor, and Ruth. The visitation for Len will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 W. State Hwy 59 Waukesha, WI 53189. Rev. Kevin Barnekow will be officiating. The burial will take place privately at Union Grove Southern Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John Neumann Catholic Church (see address above) are appreciated.
