Obituary of Harvey Schwarz

Harvey A. Schwarz, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Seasons Hospice at the age of 88 years. Harvey was born on February 1, 1925, a son of William and Rolinda Schwarz. He married Mardell Foss on October 4, 1947. Harvey proudly served his country in the United States Navy and worked as a machinist at the Waukesha Motor Company from 1946 until the day of his retirement. Harvey loved gardening and sharing his crops with family and neighbors. He was sure to always have a special row of sweet peas planted especially for the love of his life, Mardell. Harvey took great pride in having the perfect lawn and woodworking. He was known for crafting many bird houses and other wooden creations. Harvey had an innate ability to replicate wooden crafts that he would see in stores and then give them away to family and friends. He was a bigger kid then his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed going on rides at Muskego beach, building snow igloos and sledding down the barn hill, and throwing snowballs in the middle of the night out of nowhere. Harvey knew all the best places to gather hickory nuts, wild asparagus, wild watercress and morel mushrooms. As he grew older in life, his love of fun turned to board games, "Tri-Ominos" & "Marbles," winning more times than not, and "Word Search," that he would work on for hours. Harvey was known far and wide for his "Carrot Cake" which everyone begged for, as no one could make one like Harvey's. As he shared his recipe with others, they never came out the same. Harvey will be sadly missed by his children, Kathleen A. Larson-Schwarz, Michael W. (Bonnie) Schwarz and Jane (Ron) Lundy-Schwarz; grandchildren, Richard Larson, Becky Meyer-Larson, Greg Larson; Melanie Schwab-Schwarz, Jonel J. Snider-Petri and Lee M. Lundy; great-grandchildren, Dallas Meyer, Zachary Meyer, and Tyler Larson and Blake and Cameron Snider who called great-grandpa "Papa Hahvey." He is further survived by sisters, Dorothy Munz and Gloria Zeise, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, "Dell", and brother, Billy. To honor Harvey's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A memorial gathering will take place at a later date. Home Again Oh to be back on the farm again, And to hear the proud cackle of a hen. Oh to hear the birds call again, And the chirping of a little wren To see the bright morning sun rise, While rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. To see it shine across the field so green Like a beautiful, unforgettable dream To loaf all day out of the sun Is what many a fellow considers fun, But for me, give me a nice sharp hoe And let me go through the corn row by row. If only I'd be back home again, I promise I'd be willing then To work from the very break of day 'Til evening when the skies turn gray. Then at night to sit in the easy chair While Dorothy is putting up her hair, Dad at the desk making out his report, And mom in the kitchen doing Work of some sort. Bill is playing on his accordion And Gloria is out having lots of fun. It seems mighty sweet to dream Of such a bright and homey scene. I guess I sometimes wonder if it pays To wish for the return of those happy days But they say wishing doesn't cost a cent So I believe my time is really well spent. This Navy life I suppose is a bit of O.K. For a fellow who had no decent home in which to stay But I've always had an awful swell home From which I really hated to roam, Also the swellest Mother and Dad Any other young fellow ever had. Then there are my two sisters and Brother Bill Who help to make my life happier still. As I close all I can say Is that it will be a great day When once again I get back home And from there I shall never more roam. - By Harvey A.
