Obituary of Avis H. Hoefs

Avis H. Hoefs age 95, of Waukesha, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Linden Grove, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Winona, Minnesota on August 31, 1918, the daughter of Albert C. and Henrietta A. (Trester) Brand. Avis was united in marriage on September 28, 1935 in Rockford, Illinois to Erwin P. Hoefs. During WWII, she was a member of the Grey Ladies. Avis was employed at J.C. Penney for twenty five years and for fifteen years with the Godfrey Company where she was the Accounts Payable Supervisor. She was a charter member of the Sweet Adeline's where she traveled to many of their national conventions. Avis was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and where she had taught Sunday school. Surviving are her loving children; Darwin (Judy) Hoefs, Karen (the late Merlin) Harder, Marlene (Warren) Nader, Sandra (Jerry) Kennedy and George Hoefs. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law; Joyce Brand of Vero Beach, FL. Avis is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Erwin P. Hoefs on January 11, 1992, and by two brothers; Everret Brand and Howard Brand and an infant sister; Velma Brand. The visitation for Avis will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until the 6:00 p.m. funeral service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 White Rock Avenue, Waukesha, Wisconsin 53186. The Reverend Scott Oelhafen will be officiating. Private interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Avis may be given to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, (please see address above), or to Living Word Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2712 Sussex Lane, Waukesha, Wisconsin 53188.
