Obituary of Betty L. Gehl

Betty Gehl of Waukesha went to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 13, 2014. She was born on June 14, 1924, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of William and Leona (nee Jonas) Bruens. Betty grew up in Bay View, worked at the FBI, married Rene "Bud" Gehl in 1948, and raised their family of five children in Brookfield and Waukesha. Though she never graduated from college, she was one of the most widely read, highly educated, and intelligent individuals her friends and family knew. After Bud's death in 2003, she devoted herself to her family, friends, and the parishioners of St. William Catholic Church in Waukesha. She was very active in the work of St. Vincent De Paul, where her competence, compassion, and business sense were of tremendous use and value to that ministry. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley, and her beloved husband Bud. She is survived by her five children Mary (Randy) Vesperman of Mazomanie, WI; Bill (Liana) Gehl of Bucharest, Romania; Anne Gehl of Pewaukee; Peg (Ralph) Joost of Elkhorn, WI; and Tom (Barb) Gehl of Brookfield, WI; eleven grand-children, and seven great grand-children. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha WI 53188 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), Monday, February 17 2014. A visitation beginning at 10 AM at church will precede the Mass. The Rev. Curt Frederick will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. William Catholic Church (please see address above) or the Rawhide Boys Ranch (E7475 Rawhide Road, New London, WI 54961-9052).
