Obituary of Phyllis Hamann

Phyllis Hamann of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Monday., February. 10, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Phyllis was born on July 8, 1932 in Madison, WI the daughter of Gordon and Mildred (nee Egan) Kivlin. Phyllis was a School Sister of Notre Dame for 29 years. She later married James "Jim" Hamann on Aug. 21, 1971and they later adopted their daughter, Michelle. Phyllis spent over 60 years of her life in ministry to the Church and to young people. She was principal, teacher and friend to thousands of youth over the years. Phyllis often said that she never met a bad kid. She saw hope in each of them. Phyllis had a listening ear and spoke from an understanding heart. She had an infectious laugh and was a friend to many. Phyllis will be dearly missed by her daughter Michelle "Shelly" Hamann; her sister, Shirley (Greg) Nelson of AZ; nephew, Chad (Dawn) Nelson; nieces, Tracy (Brian) Thorne and Keri (Chris) Gregoire; seven grand-nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James. The visitation for Phyllis will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Christian Formation, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186.
