Obituary of Donald C. Wegner

Donald C. Wegner of Sussex, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the age of 81 years, peacefully at Zilber Family Hospice surrounded by family. Don was a faithful Lutheran and also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Arlene Goetz on August 30, 1958. Don received his 50 year service award from the Union of Operating Engineers Local 139, having led an esteemed career as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Don attended grade school at Underwood Elementary in Wauwatosa, and enjoyed telling stories to his great-grandchildren who attend the same school today. Don enjoyed travels with his children including a cruise to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Jamaica and an adventurous time in Alaska including whale & glacier cruises, float-plane fishing and flight-seeing of mountain ranges and glaciers. Don enjoyed many flights piloted by his son. He regularly cheered on his granddaughters at their softball games. Don enjoyed many other activities with family including attending NASCAR races, the State Fair, the Wisconsin Dells, golfing, vintage car shows and the annual Steam Engine Show & Threshing Bee. Don will be sadly missed by his children, Gary D. (fiancé Jolette Waterfield) Wegner of Anchorage, AK, Brian C. (Sandy) Wegner of Zionsville, IN, Kim K. (Kevin) Sieth of Hubertus, WI; his grandchildren, Josh (fiancé Candice Melter) Wegner, Jessica (Brian) Connolly, Krista (Kevin) Harrington, Ryan Wegner, Kayla Wegner, Kylie Sieth, and Sierra; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Maddison, and Katelyn; his sister-in-law Maureen Wegner of Waukesha. Don is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Arlene Wegner on December 11, 2005; one brother, Gerald Wegner and one sister, Florence (Harry "Max") Maxwell. The visitation for Don will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata, and Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. A second visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service on Saturday, April 19, at Wisconsin Memorial Park main building, Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 W. Capital Dr., Brookfield, WI 53008. The Rev. Elias Nasari will be officiating. The entombment will immediately follow.
