Obituary of Joan S. Dewane

Joan S. Dewane of Waukesha, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, at the age of 79 years. Joan was a woman of deep faith. She loved her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 22, 1935 the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Mary (Fitzgerald) Sheridan. Joan was a 1953 graduate of Holy Angels Catholic High School. She met the love of her life Ronald while being employed at Paul Lewis Laboratories/Pfizer Corp. where she was a Lab Technician. On September 20, 1958, at St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee, Joan was united in marriage to Ronald A. Dewane. The family relocated to Waukesha in 1970. She later was employed for over twenty years as a Bank Teller at Waukesha State Bank. Joan has been a member of St. William Catholic Church for over forty-three years. She was an avid Packer and Brewers fan. Joan had been a Sacristan at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Milwaukee and also participated regularly in the Mother of Perpetual Help Devotions. She was a working mom but always made time for her children whether it was playing a board game or practicing for a sport. She loved to fish and play Yahtzee. Joan will be remembered for being a good friend and listener. Joan will be dearly missed by her loving children, Judy (Janice Maneke) Dewane of DeForest, WI; Tim (Nancy) Dewane of Waterford, WI; Dennis (Carlene) Dewane of Liverpool, NY; John (Monika Sobierajski) Dewane of Waukesha, WI; six grandchildren, Tony, Megan, Alex, Adam, Dante and Devin Dewane; sister, Margaret "Mickey" (Thomas) Walsh of Orland Park, IL, friend and sister-in-law, Ann (Forest) Bishop of Waukesha, WI, special cousin, Evelyn "Sis" Sheridan of Milwaukee. Also surviving are cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret Mary Sheridan, loving husband, Ronald Dewane on February 17, 2014, one sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Ward, two aunts, Genevieve (Freddie) Haines and Mary Lou (Bud) Fitzgerald. The visitation for Joan will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, Wisconsin 53188, from 2:00 p.m. until the 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Rev. Curt Frederick will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Joan may be given to Society of Jesus Wisconsin Province (Jesuits) 3400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53208-3841 or to St. William Catholic Church (Please see address above).
