Obituary of Lawrence R. Howard


   Lawrence R. Howard (aka Moe, Larry), 93 of Pewaukee and previously of Waukesha passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024 at home. Larry was born in Waukesha, the son of George H. and Elizabeth E (Howard) Horr. He attended Waukesha High School and was a member of St. Joseph Church. As a lifelong resident of Waukesha County, and having parents who were lifelong residents as well, Larry had a detailed memory of people, landmarks, and local history. In 1947 he joined the US Navy at age 17 and served on the USS Gainard DD706. 
    On September 13, 1952, he married the love of his life, Nancy F Kresanek, at St. Roberts Church in Shorewood, WI. Larry and Nancy enjoyed 71 years of marriage together and were blessed with 6 children. Larry started out at Miller Brewery before becoming a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways until he retired in 1992. Larry was a proud member of the VFW Post 721 and a Past Commander also a member of the Tin Can Sailors. Over the years Larry and Nancy attended many USS Gainard DD706 ship reunions across the United States.
     Moe was a sports enthusiast and loved watching the Packers, Badgers, Bucks, Marquette and especially the Brewers. Cards were an important part of his life playing poker, sheepshead, euchre, bridge and golf. Moe and Nancy were part of a card club for many years and later in life enjoyed cards with the “Super Senior Card Club” up until his passing. Moe had the gift of storytelling and a great sense of humor and wit along with many sayings that his kids call Moeisms. He was known for his deep honor for his country, family and faith.
    He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Nancy, his sons Daniel R Howard of Waukesha, Douglas A Howard (Raquel) of Sparta, his daughters Christine M Howard (Daniel Cobus) of Pewaukee, Sandra E Wright (Michael) of Mondovi his grandchildren, Tristan Howard, Noah Howard,Brandon Howard (Katie), Ryah Howard, Isaac Howard, Devon Howard, Nic Howard, Katrina Flores (Michael Manuel), Teresa Flores, Shannon Wright (William Pharr), Ryan Wright ( Kyoungsun), Tiffany Howard, Trinity Howard, David Phelps, Dharyl Adam Quero (Eunice Quero), John Arvin Quero, and Myra Howard his great-grandchildren Marcelino Nibi Taw, Danney, Josiah, Olivia, Ben, Grace, Alexander, Christopher, Micah, Makenna, Peyton, Pressley, Ayden, Charley, Hayden, Bryson, Logan, Sophia, Sonya, Lana, Sarah, Samuel, Eury Ann Quero, his sister Elizabeth K Hinrichs, sisters-in-law Helen Howard and Rita Howard and many nieces and nephews who lovingly call him Uncle Moe.
    Larry was preceded in death by his sons Michael J Howard and Richard L Howard and his grandson Trevor Howard, his brothers Dennis Howard and David Howard, George Durant, Eugene Durant and Ralph Durant.


Services will be held on April 21, 2024 at RiverGlen Church, W229N1400 Westwood Drive, Waukesha WI 53186
Visitation is from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm, Service at 1:30 pm and lunch following the service at the church.

Military Honors

Please be advised that the funeral proceedings will commence with full military honors, honoring the distinguished service of Mr. Howard. This solemn tribute will precede the funeral service itself beginning at 1:30pm. We respectfully request attendees to be present promptly to pay homage during this ceremonial observance. The memorial service will follow immediately after the conclusion of the military honors, marking a continuation of our commemoration. Your presence and respect during these proceedings are greatly appreciated.
