Obituary of Vera F. Shanahan

Vera F. "Veronica" Shanahan (Nee Miracky) Of Waukesha entered Eternal Life on Friday, January 28, 2011, at the age of 89. Vera was a 1939 graduate of Messmer High School along with her late husband, John E. Shanahan. In 1944 they were married at St. John de Nepomuc Catholic Church in Milwaukee and moved to Waukesha in 1962. They owned Collections, Inc. until their retirement in 1986. She was a member of Christian Women of St William's Catholic Church, the Catholic Study Club, and Waukesha Noon Lioness Club. She enjoyed aerobics at the Schuetze Bldg. Park and Rec, and cooking and baking food of her Czech heritage. Loving mother of daughter, Nancy (Robert) Bong of Hartland, and sons, John (Janet) Shanahan, Jr. of Genesee, and Mark (Jacqueline) Shanahan of Madison. Grandmother to Dr. Matthew (Suzannah) Bong, Sarah (Peter) Menihan, Luke Bong, Kari (Brad) Kunath, Molly, John, Katie, Danny, Olivia, Ali, Victoria, Travis and Jack Shanahan, and seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane (Frank) Scheele of West Bend, and sisters-in-law, Barbara Miracky of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Margot Miracky of Sarasota, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Beata Miracky, her husband, John, and her brothers, Robert and Francis Miracky. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 5, at 12:30 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. The procession will leave from the funeral home at 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. William's Catholic Church (address above) or the Waukesha Noon Lioness Club, P.O. Box 1004, Waukesha, WI 53187-1004.
