Obituary of Doris Eilertson

Doris Erva Marie (nee Nelson) Eilertson Of Waukesha, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Avalon Square at the age of 97 years. She was born on a farm, March 26, 1914, near St. Peter, Minnesota, daughter of Herman and Emma (nee Eckberg) Nelson. After graduating from a one-room school she went to town and stayed at a home doing chores for room and board while attending high school. She married Einar Eilertson in 1938. After she was married, she lived in Minneapolis while her husband attended the University and then moved to Waukesha in 1950 when her husband came to teach German and later Russian at Carroll College. Doris was employed by the Waukesha school system serving as a study hall teacher and then as a textbook librarian. For 61 years she was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she served on the altar guild and participated in circle, bible study and quilting group, making blankets for Lutheran World Relief. ?? Doris was active in the Carroll women's group. Neighbors took notice of her vegetable and flower gardens. The family looked forward to her homemade yeast buns. Family Christmas trees were full of handmade ornaments that are reminders of her love for crafts. Doris is survived by three children, John (Kay) Eilertson of Germantown, Orwin (Kit) Eilertson of Merrimac, WI, and Dorine (the late Abdulah) Abdulelah of Kuwait/Chicago; one sister, Maurine Bexell of Hastings, MN; and a sister-in-law, Marvel Nelson of Winthrop, MN. Doris is further survived by eight grandchildren, Christine (Ryan) Bronson of Eagan, MN, Elizabeth (Nathan) Blom of Albuquerque, NM, Annya (Kevin) Fahey of Madison, WI, Eric (Yenti) Eilertson of Baraboo, WI, Tatianna Eilertson of Merrimac, WI, Jay (Dawn) Eilertson of Merrimac, WI, Cynthia Abdulelah of Kuwait, Magda (Yusr Sultan) Abdulelah of Dubai, UAE and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Einar; brothers, Arden and Sheldon; and son- in-law, Professor Abdulah Abdulelah. The funeral services for Doris will be held on Thursday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll Street, Waukesha, WI 53186. The visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. at the church until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a committal service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha. There will also be a memorial service at the Avalon for residents and staff the following Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Memorials appreciated to St. Luke's Lutheran Church (see address above) in Doris's memory. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Avalon and Vitas Hospice for their excellent care during Doris' last years and months.
