Ethel Mae (Bahr) Dehnart - May 15 1921 to August 26 2018
Remembering my Mother, Ethel Mae Dehnart and celebrating her exceptional life.
My Mother, Ethel Dehnart was far more than her enormous talent for poetry, painting and growing beautiful plants.
She protected and shepherded my sister Beverly, my brother John, and me through difficult times and made the more numerous good times even better.
Mom was a humble, special and caring woman who always found the best in every person and any situation. It was impossible to know my Mother without at least liking her and usually, very quickly, loving her.
Her concern for others was always foremost and her always-stubborn intelligence and determination made her a formidable advocate when that was needed.
Mom, you will live forever in our loving memories and while saddened that we will see you no more, we will model your persona and use this as a time for reflection. We will hold each other more closely and love each other without reservation in your honor. Thank you, Mom, for everything you were and still ARE in our hearts.
Although I lack your exceptional skill with poetry Mom, I think this poem by Tagore seems perfect for your new beginning:
Death is not
extinguishing the Light;
it is putting out the Lamp
because the Dawn
has come.
